CHP Officer's Funeral Procession To Pass Through Napa Today

The motorcade for slain officer Kenyon Youngstrom, 37, begins at 7:30 a.m. in St. Helena on its way to his funeral in Vacaville at 10 a.m. (Video from Monday's procession.)

The following announcement has been issued by the City of St. Helena:

A funeral procession for fallen CHP Officer Kenyon M. Youngstrom, who died in the line of duty in Alamo on September 5th, will begin at 975 Vintage Avenue in St. Helena on September 13th at 7:30 a.m.  

Vintage Avenue and Highway 29 at Vintage Avenue will be closed in both directions as the procession begins.

The closure in St. Helena is anticipated to last for a maximum of ten minutes.

The procession will head southbound from St. Helena through Napa and on to Vacaville. A memorial service is scheduled in Vacaville at 10 a.m. at The Mission Church, 6391 Leisure Town Road.

According to CHP Sgt. Diana McDermott, overflow seating will be available in the church's gymnasium to accommodate members of the public who wish to attend the service.

Those of you who would like to pay your respects and honor Officer Youngstrom are invited to stand by the side of the road anywhere along the route and honor his commitment and sacrifice with signs, waving flags, saluting, etc.

Youngstrom, 37, of Fairfield, died Sept. 5, a day after he was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Alamo.

The California Highway Patrol has established a memorial fund to support Youngstrom's family. A memorial fund has been set up through , and donations to the Officer Kenyon Youngstrom Memorial can be made at any Wells Fargo branch, CHP Officer Elon Steers said.

Anyone wishing to contribute can do so at any Mechanics Bank branch office, via mail or through a wire transfer. For a list of branches, go to mechanicsbank.com. Offices will open early or stay late to accept deposits. To request after-hours arrangements, all the Mechanics Bank Call Center at 800-797-MECH (6324).
