NVOS watermedia artist, Lis MacDonald

NVOS artist Lis MacDonald returns to us after a long hiatus, presenting her watercolor and watermedia painting at Studio #31 on Big Ranch Road. She paints primarily landscapes, using watermedia and collage, and she also enjoys painting portraits.

Like many before her, Lis enjoyed drawing and painting as a child, but was discouraged from continuing it, as it was not a lucrative life path. It was later in life that she returned to it, rediscovering her drawing and sketching skills, and becoming enamored with the watercolor paintings of Gerald Brommer, Stephen Quiller, Tony Couch, Nita Engle, Frank Webb, Dale Laitinen, and more. She studied with these artists in workshops, and returned to college to studio color theory, design, and life drawing.

Lis relocated to Napa from San Diego in 2002, and has been active in art organizations in both places, including the Napa Valley Art Association. She has exhibited her work at Artists of the Valley Gallery when it was located in St. Helena, but had to place her art on hold to return to work full time for six years. Newly retired in January, Lis has returned to painting, and looks forward to sharing her work during Open Studios.

You can meet her, and see her artwork, at Studio #31, Karen Winograde's pottery studio, at 2394 Big Ranch Road, in Napa, California, during Open Studios. You can also see her work online at: www.lismacdonald.com.
