NVOS oil painter, Wyn Ericson

By NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls

New to Open Studios this year, NVOS artist Wyn Ericson works in oils on large canvases. Of his artwork, he says, "I want people to get lost in the details. My work is in your face, magnified, to reveal what you otherwise might not notice."

Wyn begins with a sketch, and uses multiple points of reference to capture the best color, forms, and values. He also works from photographs or on site. His paintings begin with thin initial layers of oil paint, and then he slowly builds up the layers onto the canvas as the painting progresses.

You can visit Wyn at Studio #42, at 1807 Crinella Drive in St. Helena, Calfornia, where he'll also be giving live demonstrations of painting a large 54" square painting from a photograph. He'll also have a slide show for guests to enjoy his full body of work. You can also see his website at: www.wynericson.com.

Inspired by animals and nature, Wyn paints animals larger than life, emphasizing intricate details, with an average canvas size of 54" x 54". He also finds inspiration in his travels, thinking about the journey, the roads traveled, and the road less traveled.

NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls writes for this blog and our Facebook page (seen it yet?) and paints, paints, paints. You can see her artwork during Open Studios at Studio #48, with Sequoia Buck, west of Calistoga, and online at www.KarenLynnIngalls.com. She also teaches art classes and workshops, which you can find at www.NapaValleyArtWorkshops.com.
