This year's catalog cover artist, NVOS artist Michael Fitzpatrick, returned to painting after working as an advertising executive, first in New York, and then at his own agency back in California.
An art student at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, Michael's original focus had been on painting. In the advertising world, he felt frustrated because the division of labor didn't allow him to do the illustrating, though he was drawing and designing every day. He finally decided to return to painting full-time in the 1990s.
It takes a strong composition to create a successful ad, though, and Michael's years of experience in creating attention-getting ads served him well in creating well-designed paintings.
Beauty is his inspiration, and what he aims to create, by combining classical realism with abstract design.
Michael's artwork is shown in galleries in the Napa Valley, Sausalito, and the Pacific Northwest, and can be found in collections all over the world.
