NVOS acrylic painter, Gail Toland

By NVOS artist Davina Rubin

NVOS Artist Gail Toland
has been interested in painting most of her life. Apparel design and fashion illustraton classes in college were followed by life drawing classes at the DeYoung Museum, and painting at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Twelve years in Hawaii added to her life experience and her art education, studying painting at the Kona Arts Center under Bob Rogers, whose brilliant colors and clear air were an influence on her work.

Living among the muted tones of the Napa Valley, led her towards a more impressionistic style.

But now she has done an “about face,” returning to brilliant colors and simplicity of form, yet still retaining some of the subtlety she learned from the impressionists.

A sampling of her exhibitions and gallery shows includes:
North Bay Gallery, Yountville, CA
Mustard Festival, C.I.A., St. Helena, CA
Peju Province Winery, St. Helena, CA
Marin Art Festival, San Rafael, CA
Sonita Winery, Arizona
Copia, Napa, CA
The Napa River Inn, Napa, CA
Blue Heron Gallery, Yountville, CA
Imani Gallery, Napa, CA
Domain Chandon, Yountville, CA
