NVOS abstract expressionist oil painter, John Millious

By NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls

NVOS artist John Millious
, new to Open Studios this year, is an abstract expressionist and colorist who works in oil paints. Fascinated by color, he finds that their "subtlety and the variations can be a never-ending source of discovery.

John's work is held in over 250 private collections, including Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa; the Bank of Hawaii; Tokyo Country Club; and the Inn at SouthBridge.

John describes painting as an emotional experience. Painting abstractly frees the imagination, and allows for a transcendent state of mind and a "much deeper expression than is possible with pure imagery". He fills his paintings with "see-through portals and vistas that camouflage deeper meanings and moods."

You can see more of John's abstract expressionist work, and appreciate the colors and feelings, during Open Studios at Studio #51, 333 Crystal Springs Road, in St. Helena, California.

NVOS artist Karen Lynn Ingalls writes for this blog and our Facebook page (seen it yet?) and paints, paints, paints. You can see her artwork during Open Studios at Studio #48, with Sequoia Buck, west of Calistoga, and online at www.KarenLynnIngalls.com. She also teaches art classes and workshops, which you can find at www.NapaValleyArtWorkshops.com.
