High School Bands, Football at Vintage Band Review, Big Game

Vintage-Napa game Friday night; Vintage hosts 32 bands at competition, parade in downtown Napa Saturday.

A weekend of high school sports and band music kicks off Friday night and continues all day Saturday with a major Napa-Vintage football game, a band parade through downtown Napa and the 24th Annual Vintage Band Review at Napa Memorial Stadium.

Friday night's big football match-up between the Vintage High School Crushers (5-4 overall) and the Napa High School Indians (5-4 overall) begins at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

For the first time, the game will be televised on Napa Valley TV Channel 27, the community public access educational channel.

Area radio station KVON-1440 AM will also air the game, and it will be streamed live at www.nfhsnetwork.com/channels/vintage-napa-california.

The Vintage Band Review on Saturday is the grande finale for the year’s marching band season.  Vintage High School hosts over 32 competing high schools from California and Oregon who will compete throughout the day.

This event is the largest fundraiser for Vintage’s Instrumental Program which includes 87 marching band students, 28 orchestra students, color guard, jazz band and wind ensemble, all led by music director Bill Gantt. 

The Vintage Band Review kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday in downtown Napa with a parade of bands marching and playing down Third Street, followed by a percussion competition of drumlines beginning at 1 p.m. at  Memorial Stadium.

 There is no charge for the parade or percussion competitions.

The spectacular marching band Field Show competition begins at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium led by Drum Major Joe Panchesson.  

The Vintage High School Marching Band will open and close the event with their field show performing songs including "Rio," "Mas Que Nada,"  "Pretty Road" and "Hot Sauce." 

Tickets to the Field Show are $10 adults, $5 students and seniors/$25 Family pack (Two adults, 2 students).

The Vintage High School music students are currently fundraising for new instruments and uniforms.
