The next Tuesday Night Flick - THE WOMEN (1939) Tuesday, July 29h at 7:00pm hosted by Richard Miami at the Napa Valley Opera House

It's summertime! Breakout the barbecue, drive out to the beach and take a well-deserved vacation. What better way to spend a summer's evening than to watch one of Hollywood's greatest comedies from Hollywood's greatest year 1939 - The Women! "If only women ruled the world" and in director George Cukor's uproarious adaptation of Clare Boothe's hit Broadway comedy The Women, they do. The film has over 130 female roles and not  a man in sight. The main players are Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard and Joan Fontaine who all contribute top-flight performances to this unforgettable romp that expertly mixes uproarious humor, heartfelt drama, and biting social commentary.  The film's fashions are a feast for the eyes, designed by Hollywood legend Adrian. Incisively funny, this gossipy examination of feminine wiles, romantic couplings, and intense rivalries remains as fresh and deliciously nasty as it surely seemed upon its initial release 75 years ago. Backstabbing and catifghts have never been as much fun. The Women remains an unqualified classic and an absolute hoot!  Host Richard Miami will provide an introduction to The Women which will include the film's casting, the many, many backstage intriques and delicious tid-bits

THE WOMEN (1939)
Tuesday,  July 29th
Directed by George Cuker
Be careful what you say in private. It could become a movie. Some gossip overheard by Clare Boothe Luce in a nightclub powder room inspired her Broadway hit that's wittily adapted for the screen in THE WOMEN. George Cukor directs an all-female cast in this catty tale of battling and bonding that paints its claws Jungle Red and shreds the excesses of pampered Park Avenue princesses. Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Joan Fontaine, Mary Boland and Paulette Goddard are among the array of husband snatchers, snitches and lovelorn ladies. The dialogue sparkles, Joan Crawford's performance as a husband stealer is a classic, the film looks wonderful in Cukor's hands, and the Technicolor fashion-show scene is a one-of-a-kind Hollywood experience. 133 minutes
