Amazing Grace

The British Empire controlled the slave trade, even after the American colonies broke from its control. Based on actual events, this historical drama tells the story of William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd), an 18th-century English politician who launched an aggressive campaign to abolish British slavery, despite staunch opposition. Also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Albert Finney, and Michael Gambon. Directed by Michael Apted. 2006; 111 minutes. A discussion after the movie will focus on how the abolition of slavery in the British colonies affected slavery in America.
