Napa DA Lieberstein Faces Runoff Election in November

Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein will have to defeat Contra Costa County prosecutor Thomas Kensok in November if he wants to be re-elected to a fourth term.

Official results of the June 3 primary election show Lieberstein, the county's district attorney since 1998, failed to get 50 percent plus one of the vote.

Lieberstein finished with 12,871 votes, or 49.32 percent to Kensok's 7,509 votes or 28.78 percent of the vote. Napa County criminal defense attorney Doug Pharr finished third with 21.9 percent.

Napa County's voter turnout was 39.55 percent. "I am pleased that once again Napa County voters turned out in greater numbers than the statewide average of approximately 25 percent," Napa County Registrar of Voters John Tuteur said.

Neither candidate was immediately available for comment this afternoon.
