The Bayard Rustin Political Club met Dec. 19 in Fairfield. Guests Sue Englander, and Glendon "Anna Conda" Hyde from the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club spoke about their work with the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club in San Francisco. Hyde is the past president of the club.
This was the second meeting of the LGBT club which serves Solano and Napa counties.
At the last meeting, the club unanimously endorsed a resolution affirming AB 1266, the Student Success and Opportunity Act which will allow transgender students the freedom to fully participate at school under the gender with which they identify.
Marching orders were given to the leadership of Bayard Rustin LGBT Political Club to take the resolution to other governing bodies in Solano and Napa Counties for more endorsements and to form a committee to work on this important issue.
People interested in working on supporting transgender kids in schools, by supporting AB 1266, contact bayardrustinLGBTpoliticalclub@gmail.com.
The first meeting of this committee will be Wednesday Jan. 8, in Vallejo, to begin discussing strategy. For more information on the issue check out Support All Students at http://supportallstudents.org.
A committee was also formed to work on the many LGBT political issues impacting Vallejo. Vallejo recently was recently evaluated in HRC’s annual Municipal Equality Index and received a score of 66.
The Vallejo Committee will be tackling how to improve Vallejo’s ranking as well as how to duplicate their efforts in other cities throughout Solano and Napa.

The Club also received an offer by Reverend Bayani of Ascension Church in Vallejo, to allow the club to use a room in the church as their base of operations. For more information on Ascension Church, go to http://www.ascensionvallejo.org. The Bayard Rustin LGBT Political Club is profoundly appreciative of the gesture of support for our community.
