Best Mexican Food? Your Winner is ...

We asked, you answered! Here are the results of our latest Readers' Choice Awards contest to name the best Mexican restaurant in Napa.

More than 200 people voted in our latest Readers' Choice Awards poll of Mexican restaurants in the city of Napa.

The resounding favorite emerged as an early leader and finished with 18 percent of poll votes and two glowing, five-star reviews: According to you, Napa's best Mexican restaurant is  in the Bel Aire Plaza shopping center:

Not only is the ambience incredible, but the service and customer services is outstanding. Throw that in with the best burrito in town and how can you not be a repeat customer. Order the Super Steak Burrito with green sauce and white cheese and you won't be disappointed. ()

I love this place. I have been eating there ever since I used to work in the Bel Aire Plaza (almost 18 years). I am glad it is still around and doing great. My favorite is the chicken burrito or carnitas tacos. On Fridays in Lent I like their bean and cheese burritos. Good Stuff. ( —proprietor of , which recently won the

Other great places for Mexican food:

Your runners-up begin with  (recent winner of the ), which snared 13 percent of poll votes and one five-star review:

We really enjoy going to Compadres and patronizing a business who gives so much back to the Community! They support the kids - I've seen them at elementary school fundraisers, at Kiwanis events, at Rotary events, at numerous golf tournaments, and at many non-profit food and wine events. I have to say that their food is wonderful! They have the best menu, the best staff and a very nice location right on the river. They serve breakfast on the weekends, too! If you've never been, you should go - and if you haven't been in a while - go back! Great food, great community supporters! ()

Third place in the poll with 11 percent of votes, received no customer reviews during the contest period, although last August a user rated the restaurant four stars for take-out and lunch.

Downtown favorite  received 8 percent of poll votes and a five-star rating from Vanissa Struven, who called it "one of my favorite Mexican Food places in the Napa Valley. Great customer service, great food, and your food comes out very fast. I love their shredded beef tacos combo with rice and beans . Also I love their chips and sasa, they are the best that I have had in Napa. This is truly a great local's dining spot."

Rounding out your favorite Mexican restaurants in our contest:  got 7 percent in the poll, but no ratings or reviews;  received 6 percent of votes with no ratings or reviews;  got 5 percent of the votes and one five-star review.

Thanks to everyone for taking part!

Next week's contest is a little different:

We need your advice on where to get our taxes done. At the last minute.

Here are the nominees at present. If you know a local tax preparer we should add to the list, please let us know in the comments ASAP. The next contest begins Monday at 5 a.m.

This article made me hungry as I recalled eating at some of the contenders' places. Unfortunately, my new diet prevents me from eating Mexican food. Low fat = Low flavor. Bummer!
Rick Enos March 30, 2012 at 05:59 pm
Thank you to all of you who voted for Compadres. Although, with our wide variety of menu options, we think of Compadres more as a contemporary restaurant, we are pleased to be considered among your favorites along with other businesses that we regard highly in this category.
Join us for Easter Sunday Brunch - over 20 items, including our Spring Lamb BBQ, an omelette station, and many specialty Mexican and Southwestern dishes. P.S. Ryan - we feature a wide variety of vegetarian dishes with low fat but big flavor!

Compadres is a strong contender in many categories, Rick! Are you also planning a Mother's Day brunch? We are running a contest on that very topic in just a few weeks.

Yes, we do two brunch buffets during the year - Easter Sunday and Mothers' Day.
Mothers' Day is very similar to easter except that we will have a Pollo BBQ instead of the lamb. On Mothers' Day, we also hire a local charaicature artist, Rene Pulido - our gift to moms is a charicature of their children. He is at the restaurant 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

This is by far our very favorite Mexican spot in Napa! Always fresh ingredients and good food, and on a nice day sitting on the patio is a real treat.

How about vegan dishes, my wife's a vegan and it's hard to find restaurants that work with us for her. I have to say that our favorite's are Mini Mango and Bistro Sabor as they cater to vegans and carnivores alike and they're food is delicious and reasonable to boot. Philip & Cynthia

Is there any way to remove the blogs from the news page? Blogs are not news. They are opinionRead More pieces, and I would like more news. thanks!
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 05:41 pm
Hi Beau and F: Yes, the &#39 are still there and not going away. I trust that tech people areRead More working on this...Sorry. And as far as the blogs being on the news stream, I can't change that except to keep the blogs mostly at the bottom and the news on top. The new platform is designed to highlight the blogs more than they were before. Occasionally if there is a timely, useful or highly newsworthy blog post I will move it up, but in general the news will be in the first 5 slots and the blog below. Hope that helps. Keri

Promoting blogs instead of news makes the Patch less useful. I liked having an alternate newsRead More source. Blogger promotion is too much like stroking the egos of local bloggers rather than promoting news and information. It seriously compromises the value of Napa Valley Patch as a news source.

It is easy to judge people from a distance. All of us have up and down times in life, none of usRead More have the same internal or external supports to deal with it all. Maybe those among us who feel superior could try to take a moment or more to see life from the perspective of someone who (even from a position of pain or vulnerability) has too much pride to accept the stigma of being in need of the social translation of "the lowest of the low" homeless shelter or addiction counseling. It feels good to try lifting others up rather than tearing them down; Maybe your smile or expression of something other than disgust could make a positive difference to move a person in need toward help.

I would like to respectfully suggest though that you break your future comments (and I hope there are many more) into paragraphs to make them easier to read. Thank you and I hope you well.

I'd like to show appreciation to my grandfather on Father's Day. He taught me how to cook a roast,Read More garden, work with tools, use a shotgun and appreciate our surrounding waters. Always a patient man, my grandfather showed me so much. I got scared once when I broke a tool when we were building a skateboard ramp. He just replied with, at least you know not to do that anymore. I always admired how my grandfather loves my grandmother so much. That's old, true love. Fairy tail kinda stuff. Love we all want to grow old with. I love my grandpa with all my heart.

Hi Loui Loui: Your grandpa sounds wonderful!
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:41 am
Loui Loui, it's called false pretenses and misleading claims. While I understand it's not theRead More editor's or tech's fault, releasing a product to the public as "New with better features!" shouldn't mean that it comes with glitches, bugs and frustration. And unlike Google+ and FB, Napa Valley Patch didn't "come out", we had a NVP that was working perfectly fine and Corporate Patch decided to upgrade. Can you imagine the ether-riots if FB did an "upgrade" full of glitches and bugs"?
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Actually, Loui, I left FB two years ago and haven't been back since. And while Patch and FB may beRead More "free" services they rely on users to exist. It's a symbiotic relationship, so both sides must be content for it to work efficiently.

I am With USS on Facebook I have never Been there. I use the Patch and a few Blogs I also have myRead More own Website. Facebook has gone into the censorship business, from what many are telling me.

Why the Hispanics need their own Chambers Of Commerce is a mystery to me. Racism is the promotion ofRead More one race above others. If I supported a White/Caucasian Chamber Of Commerce I'd be labeled a bigot and racist. One Chamber Of Commerce should suffice for ALL!
