Register: Location of Staff at Napa State Hospital Questioned
In a statement issued Friday, Napa State Hospital said that transfer of clinical staff into the security zone was an experiment that didn't deliver the promised benefits
The has a story today about the on-site psychiatric staff at the , who are housed in an administrative building rather than close to the patients who might need their attention most.
Following the killing last fall of psychiatric technician Donna Gross, Napa State Hospital officials reversed a plan to assign more than two dozen senior clinicians inside the high-security treatment area, said Jim Jones, the hospital's recently retired chief of psychology.
These employees, including psychologists, registered nurses and psych techs, should be working closer to the criminally committed patients rather than being housed a substantial distance away in an administrative building, Jones said.

"It's disturbing," Jones said. "We need more people to respond to emergencies. We need more people walking around on campus to deter things from happening."
