'Red Obsession' Hits Home In Napa Valley Wine Circles

Kickoff reception for Napa Valley Film Festival was Tuesday night in Yountville.

More than 200 Napa Valley Film Festival patrons packed the Yountville Community Center Tuesday to see 'Red Obsession,' an expansive and breathtaking documentary on wine.

It was the preview kickoff event of the Napa Valley Film Festival, which officially starts Wednesday at 10 a.m.

"Red Obsession" details the amazing price runup of French Bordeaux wines in recent years caused by a rising Chinese interest in acquiring luxury brands, including high-end wines.

Prior to the screening, the festival held a "Red" reception at the Community Center courtyard, which was adorned with a massive geodesic dome. Inside the dome was a waterfall demo of a new waterproof computer tablet made by Sony, a corporate sponsor for the festival.

Outside the dome, patrons -- many wearing red in honor of the event and the film -- drank local wines and had their photos taken on the Red Carpet.

"Red Obsession" will be shown two more times during the festival:

  • Thursday, November 14 | 08:30 PMGliderport at Indian Springs | Calistoga
  • Saturday, November 16 | 05:30 PMNapa Valley Opera House | Napa
