Planning for Napa Valley New Year's Eve

We asked on Facebook, we searched our Events, we kept our ear to the ground: Here's what happening this Monday, both up-valley and down-.

Seems like not that long ago, it was the end of the world. Now, it's just the end of the year. You know what that means: break out the bubbly, stay up till midnight, kiss your lover and work up those resolutions for 2013.

A few days ago we asked our Patch friends on Facebook what their plans were for New Year's Eve. Naturally they helped out with solid tips, some of which are in our events calendar and some of which were not. Check out what we've come up with -- and naturally, feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments section below.

On Facebook, Andrew Bradley was not the only one to suggest The Meritage Resort and Spa for New Years Eve. Their listing for this event on Patch says it's a  New Year's Eve Dinner at Trinitas Wine Cellar & Ballroom Party for $200 (or $170 for Trinitas Wine Society members), enjoy dinner at Siena, wine, dancing to the Brian Cline Band, dessert, and a sparkling wine toast at midnight.  As Dan Hayes says, "Meritage is 'where it's at' this year!!" Phone number for reservations, if any are still available, is (707) 251-5833

Michael Andrew Carolan suggests the Square One Tasting Bar on First and Franklin, inside the Napa Tourist Information Center, where they are "doing a little Sumpin Sumpin ... from 6:00 to Nine (East Coast Ball drop). Come join us for a glass of JCB," that being a California sparkling wine. (707) 252-1000.

Also mentioned a couple times was Tarla Mediterranean Grill, where their New Year's Eve Party revolves around a a five-course menu with spiced champagne, Serrano Ham Wrapped Blue Prawn, Pan Seared Arctic Char, Pomegranate-Cabernet Braised Shortribs of Beef or other choices. The full menu is online here  at only $65 per person. The phone is (707) 255-5599.

Another Facebook suggestion takes us up to St. Helena, where Kellie Fuller and Mike Greensill will be playing jazz at Tra Vigne Restaurant from 7 to 10 p.m. The restaurant will Celebrate New Year's Eve at Tra Vigne with specials on the menu, including San Francisco Dungeness Crab Bisque, Grilled Maine Lobster Risotto,  and Prime Chateaubriand with Black Truffle Butter. That's called going out in style.

Teri Buchanan tells us "We're dining at Cole's Chop House," which reminds us to remind you to check to see if your restaurant choice is open on Monday night, and make reservations now if it's not too late already.

Our Patch Events calendar has a couple other possibilities for New Year's Eve, and if you know of one to add to the calendar please do.

There's a New Year's Eve Party starting at 4:00 p.m. at Rocabella Bistro Lounge, $45 includes DJ dancing and midnight champagne toast, without dinner, or if you're feeling more celebratory add the Five-Course Prix Fixe Dinner, seatings @ 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. for $95; at 9 p.m. for $125. (707) 254-9256.

Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena (738 Main St.) also has a New Year's Eve Dinner Celebration for $85. Seating begins at 5:00 p.m. and includes a farm-to-table pre fixe menu, with Miyagi oysters, roasted Sonoma duck, and potato gnocchi with wild foraged mushrooms and braised celery. In addition to the pre fixe menu, guests also have the option of dining f rom the regular Farmstead menu. And there's live music, too. (707) 963-9181.

The Napa Valley Wine Train offers a New Years Crystal Ball starting at 6:30, including an hors d’oeuvre reception in the Napa station, the antique train ride (of course), a freshly prepared gourmet meal, three drink tickets, and a sparkling wine toast at midnight. The whole ride inlcuding dinner is $237 and up, depending on seating; just $45.00 for the after-party back at the station, 10 to 1 a.m. For reservations call (800) 427-4124

Finally, check out New Years Eve at Silo's, where the group Briefcase Full of Blues puts on two shows, one at 7:00 p.m. ($45) and at 10 p.m. ($75). The late show includes a glass of Mumm with chocolates upon arrival, party favors, and a Midnight Countdown with champagne toast. All that and the blues too! For reservations call (707) 254-9256.

A total grassroots generated upheaval will fix it, nothing less. " Hand to mouth"Read More financial conditions and the confiscation of our children's future foreclose on just about anything working shy of a bleaching of our system as we know it. HRM
MICHAEL WILSON May 22, 2013 at 03:30 pm
Not so much that the Government is broken That is as it is. The question is how do we fix it?
Jarvis William Peay May 22, 2013 at 03:08 pm
You know Haley, it is our nature, we guess to post comments when we disagree with someone. Yet IRead More have to give you a secular AMEN for your 2:54pm statement. We would think that anyone over the age of say, twenty, would already know that, but progress is being made. The strategy of tension rules the process now, by design. HRM

Keri, I'm not frustrated that I don't have a profile pic, I'm frustrated that I'm not able to do itRead More myself. I can wait until it works properly so I can find one that fits the itty-bitty round format.

I think with any new technology whether it be an upgrade or new platform, there are always going toRead More be bugs. it's just the nature of technology. I personally like this new layout and understand that there will be bugs to fix. Looking good Napa Valley Patch!!

Harold, What I was getting at, I also know of other events that never get posted. 18 months ago,Read More women were getting robbed at gunpoint in the parking garages downtown - no reports.

This should be removed. He was located in the Northwest and contacted his family.
MICHAEL WILSON May 20, 2013 at 08:40 am
Ya Wendy I do hope he returns. I am not sure why the police are calling him a runaway
Wendy Garcia May 20, 2013 at 05:17 am
He is NOT a runaway. This kid is MISSING and his family needs police assistance to find him.

Keri, I have heard from the tech people, and my instructions were to clear cache, erase cookies,Read More reboot, etc. All things having to do with my computer, not with the website. I get the same issues on two different computers at different homes as well as my iPad that is logged on anywhere. Pretty sure it is not on my end. There are far too many things that are a step down from previous site. Examples: Can't seperate paragraphs in comments, no "reply" option on comments makes it difficult to know who is responding to whom, itty-bitty profile avatars smaller than a pea, green on everything makes features less distinguishable, on and on.
Keri Brenner (Editor) May 18, 2013 at 06:45 pm
Hi USS and MW The tech people are making fixes every day. If you can give me specific bugs, withRead More links, please do so so that I can let them know. Thanks for your patience....
