Napa’s Fourth of July Weekend

Singers, swimming, winetasting and student rock bands add to the fun of the Fourth's fireworks and parade.

Yes, there’s the Napa County Fair in Calistoga, and parades from San Diego to Blaine, Wash. But you can’t be everywhere at once, so let’s take a look at what’s going on this Independence Day Weekend in Napa-town.

Saturday is a “” at the Jarvis Conservatory, with voices operatic and show-tune friendly, local and international. These Grand Nights are monthly on the first Saturdays, 7 p.m. at 1711 Main Street, the .

Sunday should be a good day for cooling off – it’s the first of several days over 90 degrees in the forecast. s public pool is open from 1 to 4 p.m., only $3.50 (or $2 for oldsters/youngsters).

Monday’s Fourth of July celebrations include the starting at 1 p.m. at 2nd and School and looping for a full mile in downtown. , including map of the parade route.

Starting at 5 p.m. Monday afternoon is the City of Napa’s 4th of July celebration and fireworks. Held at Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street, the fun includes live music, food booths, arts and craft vendors, and a Kids Town America sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Performers include the students of from the Napa School of Music from 5 – 7, then the Brian Cline Band, followed by Alvon Johnson and his All-Star Band. Headlining this year are the Time Bandits, who should take the stage around 8:45.

There will be a special flag presentation by the Travis Air Force Base color guard, and a greeting from Mayor Jill Techel, planned for 7:30 p.m. Fireworks start about 9:30. Free admission and parking. More information is available by calling 707-257-9529.

Remember to have a safe holiday – should be out in full force over the weekend, and consumer fireworks are illegal in both the City and County of Napa. .
