Napa Indians Take Vintage Crushers In 'Big Game' 28-7

Intense game was well-played by both teams.

In an all-out battle for the Napa area high school football throne, Napa High School Indians topped the Vintage High School Crushers 28-7 in Friday's 'Big Game.'

Thousands of fans packed Napa Memorial Stadium for the big matchup -- number XLII.

Except for Napa running back Jack Good's TD in the fourth quarter, most of the points for both teams were scored in the first half.

Crushers running back Victor Montanez scored Vintage's only touchdown in the first quarter with a 46-yard run. He was injured in the play, however, and sat out the rest of the game.

Indians running back Luke Kampton scored a touchdown with minutes left in the second quarter. Then, with six minutes to go before the half, Napa's Mac Neilson was able to capitalize on the momentum and score again.

Injuries plagued both teams throughout. In addition to Montanez's injury early in the game, Crushers running back Ray Arredondo was injured in the second half, as was Indians quarterback Derek Poteet.

The Crushers had four personal fouls on defense.

In the junior varsity matchup, Napa took Vintage 12 to 8.
