Meet Adoptable Bunnies Fred and Ginger

Hop on down to the Napa Animal Shelter for a unique, bonded pair of house rabbits.

Meet Fred and Ginger (as in Astaire and Rogers). These beautiful rabbits were surrendered when their owner moved to a residence that accepts no pets.

Since they have been together for years, the wants to adopt them out as a pair. Who could imagine Fred without Ginger, anyway?

Fred is a 7-year-old neutered male Lion Head rabbit. His partner Ginger is a 7-year-old spayed female Red Jersey Wooley rabbit.

Keri Cochran, a volunteer at the shelter, took Ginger out of her hutch for a photo session and said the fluffy female has a great personality.

According to Cochran, rabbits need a hutch (fancy word for a rabbit cage), some wood shavings, rabbit-food pellets, an occasional apple, carrots and greens and “water and love”.

These two furry balls of fun do need to be groomed often, but they are beautiful animals that are housebroken and quiet. No one has ever complained about a noisy rabbit.

The shelter staff and volunteers see happy and sad scenes every day: Happy when animals find homes, sad when someone is forced to surrender loved animal companions like Fred and Ginger.

The poor economy and hard times take their toll when people lose their homes and are forced into a rental that does not accept pets. We can only hope that landlords recognize that most pet owners are responsible and will not allow their pets to damage a rental unit.

The shelter has many other dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption into good homes. Stop by the shelter at 942 Hartle Court six days a week, from noon till 4:45 p.m.

For more information, call (707) 253-4381. Please note that with the new construction in the area, the roads have changed a bit. The first shelter you come to on Hartle Court off of Gasser Drive is for people-the Animal Shelter is at the very end of the street.
