Locals Name Best Breakfast Spot in Napa

Napa Patch readers have made their choice for the city's best breakfast, and it's not at a fancy hotel or downtown. Where is it, and who are the runners-up? Read on.

When it comes to breakfast, Napa Patch readers want to eat — not talk.

That's the impression I get from this week's Readers' Choice Awards contest, which racked up 121 votes but resulted in no reviews for the nominated restaurants.

It's also clear from the results that readers want their breakfasts hot, no-nonsense and affordable: Congratulations to , the Readers' Choice for best breakfast spot in Napa!

Located neither downtown nor at one of the city's well-appointed hotels,  is a classic, small-town diner that serves breakfast and lunch only.

The menu is full of favorites like biscuits and gravy, scrambles, hotcakes, steak and eggs, and even pork chops and eggs.

Add to that chef/owner Javier Cejas' specialties like huevos rancheros and a bowl of spicy black beans topped with pico de gallo and served with warm tortillas, and you've got the blend that keeps the café hopping seven days a week.

If you go, go early — Soscol Café closes at 2 p.m. — and be prepared to wait for a table or booth, especially on weekends.

Thanks to everyone who took part in this week's contest. We're overhauling Readers' Choice and bringing it back June 18 with some improvements I think you'll enjoy.

Meanwhile, please keep on showing your love for your favorite local businesses by giving them positive reviews on their Napa Patch listings. There's nothing like a five-star review to lift a proprietor's spirits.
