Happy Holidays! Napa Lights Its Tree

More than 1,000 turn out for Tree Lighting Ceremony and festivities.

With hundreds of young voices echoing along, Napa Mayor Jill Techel, Congressman Mike Thompson and Napa City Councilman Scott Sedgley counted down the lighting of Napa's downtown holiday tree Wednesday before a record crowd at Veteran's Park.

"It's getting bigger every year," Techel said of the festivities, which drew an estimated audience of at least 1,000 under clear, crisp and dry skies. "We've been here before and it's been raining or cold -- this is fine."

The event, hosted by the Downtown Napa Association, included free cups of hot chocolate from Downtown Joe's and cookies from Sweetie Pies.

Three dance troupes performed: Ballet Folklorico of Napa Valley; Napa Valley Dance Center;  and the Tap Dancing Christmas Trees from Oakland.

Upcoming holiday events this weekend are Small Business Saturday ("Shop Local") on Saturday; and the Napa Downtown Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. Saturday starting at First and School streets.

Yountville's holiday lights celebration is Friday, Nov. 29, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Calistoga will have a holiday faire on Saturday Nov. 30.

Another light show in Napa will be Dec. 7, when the Napa Valley Yacht Club has its 2013 Lighted Boat Parade.  Boats will leave from the clubhouse dock, 100 Riverside Drive, between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

The boats will tour the waterfront neighborhoods of River Park and the Napa Yacht Club.
