Scores of onlookers thronged to First and Main streets in Napa Saturday for the Napa Valley Coffin Races.

The Halloween- inspired fundraiser for the Napa City Firefighters Association featured 14 teams competing to race against each other down the rise from the center of the First Street Bridge down to the intersection.

Teams competed two at a time over five rounds. Many onlookers were decked out in their Halloween finest, ready for Trick or Treat this afternoon at downtown merchants.

Each "coffin" had four runners and one "passenger." Some were quite realistic, such as the "Crash Cart" which carried a person dressed as a hospital patient.
