Shut Up, Suck Up, Get Up & Go

Shut Up, Suck Up, Get Up & Go

“Oh golly, don’t know what today will hold, since losing my job, life is like gum on the floor; sticky, gross, contaminated and stubborn.” said Mischka, my friend. My advice?

Oh shut up! Quit yer whining! Get up and get to work.

1.      Shower, clean up, find wrinkle-free, clean clothing.

2.      Put on an outfit that mirrors what you want to do and where you want to work.

3.      Go to work, as a volunteer!

Just doing these three things will change your life. There is hardly a company out there that will not accept a volunteer every Mon from 8 to noon or every Wednesday from 1 to 5pm. Been there done that. Yep, me, myself and I have done exactly this piece of advice.

Recently my friend needed a job. Asked her, “so where have you been volunteering?”

“What, NO, I’m not volunteering, need a job that pays.” She said.

OK – do you know the benefits to the company if you volunteer? You are there, dependable, dressed for the place and in a few short weeks becoming indispensable to them.

But do you know the benefits to you? Are there any? Let’s see:

1.      Resume. This can be added to your resume or CV for experience. Volunteer work DOES count and many times it is more favorable than a real job that pays you. This is a job you do from goodness not for a paycheck.

2.      Experience. You will do something different than ever before as each company/office/place has their own unique style for their industry. You will be exposed to this and can absorb these new ideas into your repertoire and learn bigger, more, better and new ways of doing.

3.      People. Meeting new, unique people in your industry is critical. Working beside them and for them gives you a special chance to seek their wisdom and advice.

4.      Psyche. Finally, getting up, moving around and going out will make you a new you. Gives you confidence, pride and when chatting with friends, you’ll not be the unemployed. You will radiate as the volunteer going places.

Shut Up your complaining pie-hole.

Suck-Up your sniveling self and open up to new unique ideas as you work for free.

Get-Up off the couch, turn off the tube, take a shower and do your laundry.

GO out there NOW and make today the first day of a new life.

When life gives you lemons make lemonade. Been there done that!
