Anyone interested in voluteering to help build some hiking trails?
Now that Bothe and Bale Grist Mill have been spared from the chopping block, the Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District is back in the saddle at Moore Creek Park with a few more miles of trail to build.
If you are interested in seeing this 670 acre park before it opens to the public, join us on one of our weekend work parties. They are held every third weekend of each month. You can camp on the lawn or sleep in one of the beds in either the main ranch house or the bunk room, or you can come up for the day as it's only a 45 minute drive from Napa and a 25 minute drive from St. Helena.
This weekend, July 21 and July 22, we will focus on a short loop trail near the top end of Moore Creek that leads from Moore Creek Trail to a pool in the creek. This is a beautiful time of the year to hike along the creek. It is mostly shaded with a canopy of trees and cool even in the heat of the summer.
All you need to bring is a sleeping bag, water bottle, comfortable clothing and a bathing suit (if you want to use the pool). We'll furnish tools, food and beverages. No experience needed and a tool safety talk will be given to everyone prior to the hike up. To RSVP and for directions please contact me by the end of today, Thursday, July 19.
Also, in case you haven't heard, Bothe State Park is open for camping again.
Don't forget to put Bale Grist Mill on your "Where do I bring the friends and relatives who don't want to go wine tasting" list. They have a fun and informative tour on Saturdays and Sundays.
