Are our trails going to pot?

Some of the biggest laughs aren't meant to be funny

I am pretty sporadic about blogging, but I thought I would share something that happened last week. Every month we host volunteers to perform trail work on new and existing trails somwhere in the valley. Lately we have been targeting a soon-to-open Moore Creek Park above Lake Hennessey. Following is the original message that I sent out:

"Things are happening at Moore Creek. The staging area is receiving fill from a cave drilling at a Calistoga winery. By October 20th (the next trail project weekend), the staging/parking area should be graded and ready to accommodate cars/vans/horse trailers and bicycles. The dirt has it's share of rocks the size of a car wheel so I have attached a short clip of the Moore Creek rock sling method for moving these rocks. We have choices of working on the Northern section of the Vista Trail, digging at the washout at the north end of Moore Creek Trail, and/or fine tuning the first MC V-O-CAL project on Moore Creek Trail where the cows have made trails skinny. Long range forecast calls for a beautiful trail building week end. As usual we'll provide good tools and so-so food for all volunteers. Beds for overnighters or grass for tenters. Let me know if you need driving directions or if you want to carpool. Thanks"

Due to some quick responses, I immediately sent out the following message:

"I have already received a bunch of RSVPs for Oct 20-21. I didn't understand the elevated interest for this project. Was it the excavator clip or just the chance for folks to get out before the creek gets too high for dry crossings? Then I get an email from Andrew asking about Funyuns for munchies. So let me clarify what I meant when I wrote "Grass for tenters". I meant there is a lawn area to pitch your tents. Sorry folks-but there will be adult beverages."
