Recently disabled and curious about medical marijuana? Now legal in your state? This is Cathy Gumina Odom's blog on her trip this past year into how to buy, use, and research medical marijuana.

Recently disabled and curious about medical marijuana? Recently disabled and curious about medical marijuana? Now legal in your state? This is Cathy Gumina Odom's blog on her trip this past year into how to buy, use, and research medical marijuana. In fact, for this first blog, I'll be medicated. Tonight I smoked medical marijuana and ate the chocolate. Today was a bad pain day. Everything but my elbows hurt. Woke at 2AM. Tried heating pad, then hot shower. Then coffee, lotion, a roll-on over the counter rub. Breakfast. Drove to SRJC, got parking permit, books, checked out campus for disability chair and getting around. Got books, and a cool Jansport rolling backpack. Leg, low back, and left sacroiliac pain were killing me. Tried asprin. More food, water, smoothie. Then tylenol. Drove home, another hour and a half, pain on fire by now. Fatigued, I had the window open in Sonoma, cold air on, trying to stay awake. The food made me sleepy. I was 207 pounds and eating 2000-3000 calories a day. Fat, dumb and happy. Now? down to 176, eating 500-1000 calories a day. I haven't been really hungry since July. Been nauseated, gagging and dry heaving since cleaning up after Thanksgiving turkey.

How about answering the questions posed before you
MICHAEL P WILSON "Independent Kid" January 14, 2013 at 12:34 am
I await her next blog.
Michael Haley January 14, 2013 at 12:37 am
Well, I was in favor of legalizing marijuana but after reading this I am starting to have my doubts.
diana greenwood January 14, 2013 at 12:47 am
Is this a joke? If the Patch wants to be considered a news source, it may want to examine the open invitation policy to random bloggers in order to be taken seriously. I would suggest that anyone reading this rambling diatribe look at facts regarding this particular issue-- the benefits and drawbacks to responsible pot use--and read articles by informed and articulate writers, rather than allow blather from a blogger who cannot spell nor keep thoughts together. There is no case here to create interest, discussion, or sympathy. Oh, and this from a liberal, go figure.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) January 14, 2013 at 02:19 am
Everyone on the email thread referenced above has been advised that Cathy is a blogger who creates her own content at will and does not represent Napa Valley Patch. We welcome all bloggers as long as they observe our terms of service.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) January 14, 2013 at 02:23 am
Can anybody show me where Cathy is violating our terms of use? Because I'm not seeing it. We welcome all perspectives to our Local Voices platform as long as bloggers observe our terms of use. Bloggers own their own content, post at will and are not edited. They represent themselves on Patch, but they do not speak for Patch.
Renee Cazares January 14, 2013 at 02:57 am
Bravo and I am happy for the open forum, in this case bloggers with free expression. Also Ms Odom, seems to be finding her footing as a writer. I love the Patch because it is our real life community.
Renee Cazares January 14, 2013 at 03:13 am
I may avoid this particular blogger only because I have hard time following her.
Paul Hubbard January 14, 2013 at 03:17 am
I'm just trying to figure out if this and that Albany blog are ramblings of a lady higher than a kite or they're cries for help. If the latter I hope she seeks the professional help needed, if its the former maybe slow down on the pipe a little and focus.
Cathy Gumina Odom January 14, 2013 at 11:12 am
Sober. Need to drive to SRJC today. Thank you all for your concerns. The IRS knows where I live. How do I get a hold of them?
Renee Cazares January 14, 2013 at 11:25 am
In reading more of this blog, and trying to sift through it, I wonder how seriously Ms. Odom takes her own written words? When she writes 'bring. It. On.' about potentially being raped (or beaten) in County jail, I find that reprehensible. Rape is not just for a story, for it is all too much a story, and a horrible crime. Is it her writing style to shock? Not sure, however, rape is a word not to be thrown around lightly and no woman who has ever been raped would ask to ' bring. It. On.'
Cathy Gumina Odom January 14, 2013 at 01:28 pm
I'm a shock blogger. Bringing Truth to the world is my goal. Save the cheerleader, save the world.
Cathy Gumina Odom January 14, 2013 at 01:30 pm
I've been molested by a babysitter in Pacifica. I do not tolerate violence against women. I've been stabbed, hit, beaten, molested, and held at gunpoint, by a family member. I have not been raped. Yet.
Tim Fertiny January 14, 2013 at 01:30 pm
Gunina Odom,
Are you using your state disability to purchase your dope? If you can not sit, how do you manage to type all of your entertaining blogs? Are you working at Vine Hill and collecting disability?
Cathy Gumina Odom January 14, 2013 at 01:40 pm
Is there a restriction from the State on what I can and cannot buy? Or is that coming? Maybe that's why EDD gave us all a Bank of America credit/debit card? So they can track our purchases? And only do online forms? Track our disabilities? I'm sure it's very secure. They aren't using Java, right?
Cathy Gumina Odom January 14, 2013 at 01:41 pm
Oh, I'm in bed, supine or laying down. I have an iPad. Use the blue tooth keyboard for longer posts. Which, yes, I can figure out how to use when stoned.
Tim Fertiny January 14, 2013 at 01:43 pm
Are you working at Vine Hill and collecting disability?
Jarvis William Peay January 14, 2013 at 02:56 pm
I think her non answer is your answer, Tim. Note to the editor, LH: Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should, or are you enabling Cathy Odom because you know that she will generate more of the beloved hits at Napa Valley Patch that you so desire? Nuff said....... HRM
Belle (Orchid Lady) January 14, 2013 at 03:33 pm
Oh...sory... (smile)
Belle (Orchid Lady) January 14, 2013 at 03:39 pm
Jarvis, you have posted some pretty 'edgy' comments and letters/blogs yourself. Are saying we (people who may NOT find you amusing) should demand you be censored?
Jarvis William Peay January 14, 2013 at 04:35 pm
Negative, Belle, apparently you missed my point. I feel sorry for Cathy in that she is apparently seeking validation and attention at the cost of her humanity, IMO. I wish her well. HRM
Paul Hubbard January 14, 2013 at 05:12 pm
Cathy, I'm not exactly schooled in the world of blogging so maybe you could help me, what is a shock blogger? I assume you mean you write outlandish comments in hopes that it spurs conversation, would that be a fair statement? Is it fair to say you embellish to raise the shock value of your blogs?
Tim Fertiny January 14, 2013 at 09:30 pm
Gumina Odom;
Perhaps you could clear this up for us "I just took my pic today as a returning college student. They had a mirror. Not a great pic but better than this. I took out my ponytail, took off my Panda Hat, and smiled. They tried to get my Giants logo in from my favorite hoodie but it didn't quite fit. Well my teeth do look great after 15 years of orthodontia. Thanks Mom Dad and Dr Odom!! This was your post and didnt you tell us you couldnt sit down???
MICHAEL P WILSON "Independent Kid" January 14, 2013 at 09:40 pm
Cathy I liked your Berkeley blog post
vocal-de-local January 14, 2013 at 11:47 pm
Ugh, I'm just wondering where all the cannabis supporters are now? They always come out of the woodwork with pot related posts. Where are they now? LOL! They DO have an agenda and they certainly don't want to be associated with the bad publicity!
Mary Richardson January 15, 2013 at 03:45 pm
I think it's apparent here that Cathy's blogs, whether confusing, abstract, stoned or sober, are being read. In fact, this blog has more comments than any I've seen. I only check in when I have time; some check in and comment often. We all do things differently. I support Louisa in that I do not see where Cathy has overstepped the terms of blogging on Patch. Of course she's trying to get a rise out of people, and she's succeeding. As they say, "If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen." If you don't like her blog, don't read it and comment. If you like a good banter, carry on!
MICHAEL P WILSON "Independent Kid" January 15, 2013 at 03:53 pm
Great point Mary
Alex Horvath January 19, 2013 at 11:55 am
Cathy -- Did you know that you can create individual posts for each of your blogs? I hesitate to try and explain this, but it's all there in the blog section when you click "Blog on Patch". Best wishes -- I enjoy reading of your experiences.
Cathy Gumina Odom January 22, 2013 at 05:27 am
Thanks will check it out. Did pick up a vaporizer, haven't tried it out yet. Vine Hill Computers is privately owned, by me, no employees. Was going to fix computers on a bench in the garage but too painful to bend over and swap out motherboards and hard drives. Unless I'm taking 4 Vicodin a day. Which i did for a year. And worked, drove to Marin, and suffered through it. Easier to lay down. My bones are showing sarcoidosis and damaging. Autoimmune disease is attacking my joints, anything with synovial fluid. Painful and annoying. Yes I do have now a permanent blue handicap pass. And no dope and drive. 1/2 beer tonight and my Mom had to drive! Getting old, but I'm tough.

Is there any way to remove the blogs from the news page? Blogs are not news. They are opinionRead More pieces, and I would like more news. thanks!
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 05:41 pm
Hi Beau and F: Yes, the &#39 are still there and not going away. I trust that tech people areRead More working on this...Sorry. And as far as the blogs being on the news stream, I can't change that except to keep the blogs mostly at the bottom and the news on top. The new platform is designed to highlight the blogs more than they were before. Occasionally if there is a timely, useful or highly newsworthy blog post I will move it up, but in general the news will be in the first 5 slots and the blog below. Hope that helps. Keri

It is easy to judge people from a distance. All of us have up and down times in life, none of usRead More have the same internal or external supports to deal with it all. Maybe those among us who feel superior could try to take a moment or more to see life from the perspective of someone who (even from a position of pain or vulnerability) has too much pride to accept the stigma of being in need of the social translation of "the lowest of the low" homeless shelter or addiction counseling. It feels good to try lifting others up rather than tearing them down; Maybe your smile or expression of something other than disgust could make a positive difference to move a person in need toward help.

I'd like to show appreciation to my grandfather on Father's Day. He taught me how to cook a roast,Read More garden, work with tools, use a shotgun and appreciate our surrounding waters. Always a patient man, my grandfather showed me so much. I got scared once when I broke a tool when we were building a skateboard ramp. He just replied with, at least you know not to do that anymore. I always admired how my grandfather loves my grandmother so much. That's old, true love. Fairy tail kinda stuff. Love we all want to grow old with. I love my grandpa with all my heart.

Hi Loui Loui: Your grandpa sounds wonderful!

Loui Loui, it's called false pretenses and misleading claims. While I understand it's not theRead More editor's or tech's fault, releasing a product to the public as "New with better features!" shouldn't mean that it comes with glitches, bugs and frustration. And unlike Google+ and FB, Napa Valley Patch didn't "come out", we had a NVP that was working perfectly fine and Corporate Patch decided to upgrade. Can you imagine the ether-riots if FB did an "upgrade" full of glitches and bugs"?
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Actually, Loui, I left FB two years ago and haven't been back since. And while Patch and FB may beRead More "free" services they rely on users to exist. It's a symbiotic relationship, so both sides must be content for it to work efficiently.
