Rutherford Grill Owner Plans Yountville Restaurant

The upcoming 6,000-square foot R+D Kitchen restaurant at the north end of Yountville will have indoor and outdoor seating for 137 customers, a koi pond and an outdoor bar. It's expected to open in March, 2013.

A new restaurant is coming to the north end of Yountville early next year: R+D Kitchen is expected to open March 2013 at Washington Square, an emerging business development at the corner of Washington and Madison streets.

The site was the home of the former Napa Valley Grille and a few retail stores, which were demolished: The current builder, Hillstone Restaurant Group, has started from the ground up.

Hillstone also owns Kelly’s Fuel & Provisions at the same intersection, where a former gas station closed two years ago. “We opened in October 2011," said operator Tim Kelly.

The popular Rutherford Grill on Highway 29 is also a Hillstone property.

Kelly said R+B Kitchen’s menu will be similar to Rutherford Grill's, "but with its own style.”

R+D Kitchens are also located in Santa Monica, Newport Beach and Dallas. Hillstone Company founder George Biel splits his tme between residences in the Napa Valley and Santa Monica, Kelly said.

The 6,000-square foot Yountville restaurant will have indoor and outdoor seating for 137 customers and will feature a koi pond and an outdoor bar.

Town of Yountville Associate Planner Sandra Smith said R+D Kitchen will contribute to Yountville.

“We are known as a food and wine destination. We believe the new restaurant will only enhance our town,” she said. “We are looking forward to its opening.”
