New Restaurant-Bakery Planned for Former Marie Callender's in North Napa

Paintbrush in hand, Sam Naeine said the new Oventi Restaurant and Bakery will open "as soon as possible," perhaps even this month. The new spot at the old Marie Callender's will serve three meals a day, he said.

The "For Sale" sign is down and the "Now Hiring" sign is up at the former Marie Callender's pie shop and restaurant on Trower Avenue in north Napa.

Like the defunct Callender's, the site's new occupant plans to operate as both a restaurant and a bakery, according to a worker who identified himself as Sam Naeine.

Naeine, who said he hails from Las Canarias, also known as the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago located off of north Africa's Atlantic coast, was working with helpers Wednesday to ready the future Oventi Restaurant and Bakery for business.

He said the new eatery at the intersection of Trower and Highway 29 will serve three meals a day with a menu of American, Italian and Spanish cuisine and beverages including beer and wine.

Naeine said the restaurant and bakery will be the breakfast partner of the adjoining Napa Winery Inn, the former John Muir Inn, which was renamed after it changed hands earlier this year.

Asked when Oventi would open its doors, Naeine said he hoped it would be this month or "as soon as possible.

"We're wasting time," Naeine said, paintbrush in hand.

Great! Another vacant building given life. I hope the food is good and the prices reasonable. Is this this chain, or are there other ones in the region?

So happy to see the hiring sign now as I drive by frequently. Anxious to check it out. I agree with the above comments--need moderate prices for us locals as well as a friendly family-type place to meet. Sounds good so far. We'll see!! Marilyn Hicks

Glad the site is getting new life . . . smile.

I love that he was quoted as saying, "We're wasting time," with paintbrush in hand! I noticed the activity from 29 just two days ago and the clean up going on is moving quickly for sure. I agree with the others who are hoping for reasonable prices, good food and family-type atmosphere. Mr. Naeine sure came a long way from home to open this restaurant. I'll definitely check it out.
