The "For Sale" sign is down and the "Now Hiring" sign is up at the former Marie Callender's pie shop and restaurant on Trower Avenue in north Napa.
Like the defunct Callender's, the site's new occupant plans to operate as both a restaurant and a bakery, according to a worker who identified himself as Sam Naeine.
Naeine, who said he hails from Las Canarias, also known as the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago located off of north Africa's Atlantic coast, was working with helpers Wednesday to ready the future Oventi Restaurant and Bakery for business.
He said the new eatery at the intersection of Trower and Highway 29 will serve three meals a day with a menu of American, Italian and Spanish cuisine and beverages including beer and wine.
Naeine said the restaurant and bakery will be the breakfast partner of the adjoining Napa Winery Inn, the former John Muir Inn, which was renamed after it changed hands earlier this year.
Asked when Oventi would open its doors, Naeine said he hoped it would be this month or "as soon as possible.
"We're wasting time," Naeine said, paintbrush in hand.
