For Alex Sotelo, the path to achieving the American Dream began in the vineyards of Napa Valley. But what was a way for Sotelo to make quick cash -- harvesting and pruning the vineyards of the winery owners that he worked for -- evolved into a passion for winemaking.
Today Sotelo, a native of Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico, is one of the most prominent Latino vintners in the valley. Sotelo studied viticulture at Napa Valley College and UC Davis all the while working in the vineyards. In 2004, Sotelo opened Alex Sotelo Cellars.
Recently, Sotelo sat in front of Univision cameras and told the story of how he went from immigrant worker to viticulturist.
