Napa Pizza Patrol: Readers Have Their Say

“I just had my favorite pizza last week at Tra Vigne- Cambozola and figs…yummy! Maybe it had arugula, too,” said Marie Smith, who’s lived in Napa for years.  “Sweet and salty- my fav! We enjoyed this pizza with the Tra Vigne Cabernet made by Markham Vineyards. Yummy!”

Smith also has a great idea for pizza at home. “I like to buy the flatbread w/truffle paste from Trader Joe’s.  I add fresh mozzarella, arugula and olive oil.”

Her husband, Eric, enjoys the Supreme Pizza (all meat) from Papa Joe’s Pizza in Napa on Lincoln Avenue.

Lelani Slack, of , says Papa Joe's is her favorite for take-out and Oenotri is her favorite for dining in.

Some readers mildly scoffed at the “high end” pizza scene, making the point that there are a lot of more-traditional pizzas available.

“All the places mentioned in the article do not have ‘real’ pizza. They serve ‘foo foo’ food. Dough with ‘things’ on it,” wrote Ed Rapp.

“REAL pizza is like . . .  Fazerrati's or Parry's in American Canyon. But THE BEST in Napa is Filippi's Pizza Grotto, hands down.

"Mary's and New York Pizza Kitchen are good, too. REAL Pizza. Lord, how we miss West Side Pizza , the best Napa has ever known,” Rapp concluded.

“Round Table has pretty good pizza,” according to Tim Thulin. “Tonight we had an Artichoke Fiesta pizza from the Pizza Guys, used a coupon. $10.78 and it was more pizza than we could eat.

"I'm sure some of the fancier places have great pizza but I think there is something to be said for good pizza at an affordable price,” Thulin wrote.
