Head Shop Chain Expands into Napa

A former gas station on the east side of Soscol Avenue is now the home of Napa's newest smoke shop, the Mighty Quinn, which opened its doors last year.

“We sell the best in pipes, waterpipes, papers, vaporizers, books and DVDs. We are a smokers’ smoke shop,” said John Hurley, vice president and general manager of the Mighty Quinn chain.

Hurley said the business began in 1979 in Santa Rosa before expanding to San Rafael in 1999 and Petaluma in 2008; the Napa store is its fourth.

“We chose Napa as (our next) location at the request of our customers. They wanted an alternative to the other two stores in Napa that sell a similar line of smoker merchandise,” Hurley said.

If you are under the age of 18, forget about shopping at The Mighty Quinn. “We self-impose a strict 18-years and over only policy at this store,” Hurley said.

Adults will discover the smoke shop to be well-lighted with a fresh coat of lime green paint on the walls.

“We want our customers to feel comfortable and relaxed when in our stores,” Hurley said.

Lining the walls are tie-dyed T-shirts, colorful wall hangings, and glass shelves displaying small to towering glass smoking devices in every color of the rainbow.

Old-time Napans will remember the site as a gasoline station on Soscol Avenue just north of Imola Avenue.
