Winemaker Wednesday: Cornerstone Cellars

In September 1991, Memphis physicians Dr. Michael Dragutsky and Dr. David Sloas suddenly found their love of wine transformed from a dream into a reality. Sloas was up on Howell Mountain visiting Randy Dunn, as harvest rolled on, Dunn realized he had more fruit than anticipated and offered five tons to Sloas. He made a quick call back to his friend and partner Dragutsky and the pair were in the wine business. It only took one vintage to turn winemaking into a lifelong passion for them.

Now, twenty years later, Cornerstone Cellars is recognized as a quality leader in super-premium Napa Valley, and now Willamette Valley, wines. From the first vintage, Cornerstone has received consistently high ratings from The Wine Spectator, The Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker. Cornerstone Cellars was rated one of eight "World Class" Cabernet producers (along with Dunn Howell Mountain, Mondavi Reserve, Phelps, Ridge, and Stags Leap Wine Cellars) in The Connoisseurs' Handbook of the Wines of California and the Pacific Northwest, 4th Edition.

Today, proprietors Dragutsky and Sloas remain the heart and soul of Cornerstone Cellars and have been joined by Managing Partner Craig Camp, Winemaker Jeff Keene and a group of Memphis based partners led by Hal Lewis and John Carrier. All share one goal: to make compelling, exciting wines that speak clearly of the vineyard, variety and vintage from which they are born. All of our wines receive minimal, gentle winemaking relying more on nature than technology as the path to making great wine. All come from organic or sustainably farmed vineyards
