Bites Nearby: Bistro Sabor

Ariel Ceja's First Street hangout has pan-Latin flair.

BISTRO SABOR

Truly a home-grown Napa eatery, at 1126 First St. is the inspiration of proprietor Ariel Ceja, whose family's operates its tasting salon in the next block at 1248 First.

After the usual stints as a service worker in the Napa Valley food and wine industry, Ceja wanted a place where workers could go after hours for affordable food and drink in a casual, locals-friendly environment.

At Bistro Sabor, you order at the counter and many of the food items are $10 or less. Salvadoran pupusas, Mexican tacos and fruity salads are all on the menu, while the drinks list ranges from Mexican sodas through beer and ale to wine and even sake.

A big-screen TV shows international sports events and Ceja keeps the music bubbling on the restaurant sound system. Saturdays he cranks up the volume for salsa dancing, complete with free lessons.
