Where's the Best Italian Food in Town?

When you say "Let's eat Italian food tonight," where in Napa do you go? Tell us in the comments, vote in our poll, write a review to help your favorite place win our contest.

March 1, 9 a.m.: The contest is closed! Watch Napa Patch at noon when we reveal the winner.

Earlier: We had so much fun with the , we thought we'd share the love with another kind of survey: Our weekly Best of Napa feature debuts right here, right now, with more than a dozen great local contestants in the running for the first award to be determined by your votes, comments and reviews.

Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below and reviews on its individual Patch business listing. We will announce the winner at noon Friday.

Where's the Best Italian Food in Town?

Here are some of our favorite places; if we're leaving one of yours off the list, please let us know in the comments and we'll add it: ,, , , , ,  (malfatti), , , , , , , ,  (malfatti).

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by Patch editor Louisa Hufstader, based on poll results, comments and reviews on Patch Places.

Please vote only once per survey, per Patch. Comments and reviews receive greater weight in determining the winner.

After 24 hours, Oenotri leads in the poll, followed by Bistro Don Giovanni, Ristorante Allegria, Val's, Ca' Momi, Lawler's, Uva, Firewood and Olive Tree. Don't forget though that the poll is not the sole determining factor in who will get the Best of Napa bragging rights: Positive comments and reviews are what will put the winner over the top.
Mike Treleven February 28, 2012 at 01:15 pm
My favorite has to be Bistro Don Giovanni, but it is so hard to pick only one. That is where I take out-of-town company. Took my brother that a couple of years ago and he is still talking about it. It is also includes Allegria, Oenotri, Genova and Azzuro's. Can't get enough of them. Hmm, maybe I should go out to lunch today. Yea!
Lori Carter February 28, 2012 at 02:13 pm
Amazing food, great staff! For a great meal and a good hearted laugh CA' MOMI is your place
Matt Jackson February 28, 2012 at 03:05 pm
1 item alone? I have to say Val's. That malfati man is an icon and his malfati creations are like saucy pieces of crack.
Haven't been to Oenotri. I usually stay away from restaurants with names I cannot pronounce. Grandmother's advice!
Edward Stephanick February 28, 2012 at 04:28 pm
Ca' Momi Enoteca has the best pizza in Napa, over-the-top Italian pastries hand-made each day, and Lasagna so good; you will be back again and again. The Pizza Napoletana is certified VPN, which basically means it is a certified and approved recipe that dates back hundreds of years to Naples, Italy. When you think of Italian food in Napa, and the best Italian Restaurant, you have to think of Ca’ Momi.

Filippis pizza grotto is the best family place in town !!!!!!
Susan Swafford February 29, 2012 at 01:22 am
Val's is the bestest for Minestrone, Malfatti, Ravioli. Deliciousa*****
Clemente is a talented Chef with his authentic Italian Sauce for his Well prepared lunch and dinner specialties. The whole staff is special and courteous. Yay Val's
Carlos Villatoro (Editor) February 29, 2012 at 02:53 am
Of course my vote won't count but GO VAL's !!
Carrie Barnett February 29, 2012 at 06:16 pm
I'm at home today with my sick little 5yr old. And as I'm making him home made chicken pot pie he says "Mommy I want Malfatti's, they make me all better." Who am I to argue, so I drove down and got him some. Clemente's is the BEST!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) February 29, 2012 at 08:28 pm
I hope your little one is better soon, Carrie!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) February 29, 2012 at 08:59 pm
I see that Siena has a major lead today, but there are no comments about why people think it is so good. We need comments for the winner: The poll won't do it alone!
Jay February 29, 2012 at 10:35 pm
Since Chef Mike took over Siena 8 months ago, Siena started to show entire Napa what a real Chef can do! We had our anniversary dinner in Sieana and it was so delightful from in every aspect. Service is extraordinary and food is magnificient.
I don't want to brag about this Restaurant anymore , I will have you try it and be the judge!
Sae Cho March 1, 2012 at 02:09 am
Siena has the best service and ambience!
Ashley March 1, 2012 at 01:17 pm

Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 1, 2012 at 06:00 pm
Very positive, but we can't count comments left by people who are obviously concealing their identities. If you wish to post with just your first name, that will be counted toward Val's.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 1, 2012 at 08:49 pm
It's turning into a two-way race between Siena and Val's (Clemente's) and it's neck and neck in the poll, with Val's leading in quality comments. But nobody has reviewed either place and ratings are part of the contest! Just click on the business listing for the business you wish to rate. For Siena, click Meritage Resort. Thank you!
Steve March 1, 2012 at 09:07 pm
I love Clemente's! My favorite is the Pot Roast. I like to get spaghetti with Meat Sauce and put the Pot Roast on top of it. I'm not discounting the Ravioli & Malfatti by any means; love them too!
River McCawley March 1, 2012 at 09:39 pm
I have tried to rate but the Welcome letter to confirm account was never sent.
Matt Jackson March 1, 2012 at 10:53 pm
Looks to me like some people might be voting for themselves?
Gail March 1, 2012 at 11:39 pm
We love Clemente's at Val's for the great food, particularly theiir Malfatti, great services and great price !!!!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 2, 2012 at 12:09 am
Hi River, sorry about that, I went ahead and activated your account so you can rate. (Sometimes those emails go to spam filters, darn it.) Thank you!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 2, 2012 at 12:10 am
Hi Matt, I am sure they are.
Cameron Busquaert March 2, 2012 at 02:44 am
Where's some love for Pizza Azzuro??
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 2, 2012 at 11:18 am
Of course your vote DOES count, Carlos. Did you take the poll?
River McCawley March 2, 2012 at 01:39 pm
Our family comes to Clemente’s for the Holidays and birthdays. From the moment you walk in the door you feel the love from the Clemente family and it show in every bite in every dish. And my favorite dish of all is the Malfatti
Segway Napa March 2, 2012 at 06:54 pm
Hard to choose, but Clemente's (Val's) gets my vote. His sauce is the best I've ever had!
Linda Burris March 3, 2012 at 04:03 am
The contest is over, but I too, would say Val's. We held my Rehearsal Dinner at The Depot Restaurant in Sept. 1982. I was saddened when the restaurant closed, and ecstatic when Clemente began cooking at Val's. When we had my Dad's 80th Birthday Celebration, it was those wonderful Malfattis, gnocchis and raviolis that we knew were really the ticket!

Hi Keri, Thanks for letting us know. I tried to correct the &#39, but it appears to be notRead More working.

Is there any way to remove the blogs from the news page? Blogs are not news. They are opinionRead More pieces, and I would like more news. thanks!
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 05:41 pm
Hi Beau and F: Yes, the &#39 are still there and not going away. I trust that tech people areRead More working on this...Sorry. And as far as the blogs being on the news stream, I can't change that except to keep the blogs mostly at the bottom and the news on top. The new platform is designed to highlight the blogs more than they were before. Occasionally if there is a timely, useful or highly newsworthy blog post I will move it up, but in general the news will be in the first 5 slots and the blog below. Hope that helps. Keri

It is easy to judge people from a distance. All of us have up and down times in life, none of usRead More have the same internal or external supports to deal with it all. Maybe those among us who feel superior could try to take a moment or more to see life from the perspective of someone who (even from a position of pain or vulnerability) has too much pride to accept the stigma of being in need of the social translation of "the lowest of the low" homeless shelter or addiction counseling. It feels good to try lifting others up rather than tearing them down; Maybe your smile or expression of something other than disgust could make a positive difference to move a person in need toward help.

Lo! And behold! If you check today's (Friday, June 14) Fugitive page on Napa Valley Patch you willRead More see Benjamin Paz, the one and same who was arrested for being naked at the Expo.

Thank you Marlene for your story, It is a tragic and difficult life that many homeless people haveRead More to live and I always thank my god that I have been more fortunate. I would like to respectfully suggest though that you break your future comments (and I hope there are many more) into paragraphs to make them easier to read. Thank you and I hope you well.

Not the case. It's definitely on the list of stories to cover. Absolutely! Thanks for the reminder!

I'd like to show appreciation to my grandfather on Father's Day. He taught me how to cook a roast,Read More garden, work with tools, use a shotgun and appreciate our surrounding waters. Always a patient man, my grandfather showed me so much. I got scared once when I broke a tool when we were building a skateboard ramp. He just replied with, at least you know not to do that anymore. I always admired how my grandfather loves my grandmother so much. That's old, true love. Fairy tail kinda stuff. Love we all want to grow old with. I love my grandpa with all my heart.
Keri Brenner (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 06:19 pm
Hi Loui Loui: Your grandpa sounds wonderful!
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:41 am
Loui Loui, it's called false pretenses and misleading claims. While I understand it's not theRead More editor's or tech's fault, releasing a product to the public as "New with better features!" shouldn't mean that it comes with glitches, bugs and frustration. And unlike Google+ and FB, Napa Valley Patch didn't "come out", we had a NVP that was working perfectly fine and Corporate Patch decided to upgrade. Can you imagine the ether-riots if FB did an "upgrade" full of glitches and bugs"?
Unfiltered Steve Simoneau June 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm
Actually, Loui, I left FB two years ago and haven't been back since. And while Patch and FB may beRead More "free" services they rely on users to exist. It's a symbiotic relationship, so both sides must be content for it to work efficiently.
MICHAEL WILSON June 15, 2013 at 10:24 am
I am With USS on Facebook I have never Been there. I use the Patch and a few Blogs I also have myRead More own Website. Facebook has gone into the censorship business, from what many are telling me.

Why the Hispanics need their own Chambers Of Commerce is a mystery to me. Racism is the promotion ofRead More one race above others. If I supported a White/Caucasian Chamber Of Commerce I'd be labeled a bigot and racist. One Chamber Of Commerce should suffice for ALL!
Harold Edwards June 11, 2013 at 01:15 am
All the Chamber of Commerce promotes is slave labor pure & simple. It screws the worker &Read More practices unfair labor for business big and small. They are not a team player there only for the team owner!! Don't fall for there wicked ways.
