Vallejo Man Drowns in Lake Berryessa

Napa County Sheriff's dive team recovers body Sunday morning.

 By Bay City News Service

A Vallejo man died in an apparent drowning at Lake Berryessa on Saturday, a Napa County sheriff's captain said today.

Jesus Gonzalez, 25, was swimming in water about 9 feet deep, roughly 22 feet from shore in the Oak Shores area of the lake, when he began struggling around 1:40 p.m., sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said.

Another man tried to help Gonzalez, but he let go when Gonzalez grabbed him, Stuart said.

A sheriff's dive team recovered Gonzalez's body around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Stuart said. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
