Salsa Anyone? Here's Your Chance to Shake It to Latin Rhythms for A Good Cause

Benefit for Community Action of Napa Valley is Saturday at Napa Valley Expo.


The first big salsa dance event run by Community Action of Napa Valley is this weekend.

Salsa Napa Valley will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the Napa Valley Expo, Chardonnay Hall. Proceeds benefiting food and shelter agencies in Napa Valley.

"This event will benefit Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank and area homeless shelters," said Charlene Horton, development director for Community Action of Napa Valley.

One of the Bay Area's most popular salsa bands, Avance, will headline the dance. Avance's 13-piece orchestra will start playing at 7:30 p.m., Horton said.

Prior to the show, area salsa dance teachers will be on hand to teach the basics to beginners, she said. Food and drink from local vendors and a silent auction are also planned.

"This is the first time we've don't it like this," Horton said. "It's a big place -- I hope we fill it."

 Admission is $55 and tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com.

A night with live music by Avance, ll to benefit the life-saving food and shelter programs of Community Action of Napa Valley.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and dance instructors will be on hand to help those who need coaching.

CANV’s Food Bank is Napa County’s central source of food for low-income people. The Food Bank picks up food from local vendors and distributes food through its local food pantries and other non-profit organizations throughout Napa County.  

CANV’s Senior Nutrition/Meals on Wheels Program delivers balanced and nutritional meals and lively conversation to home-bound isolated seniors throughout the Napa Valley and serves meals at congregate meals sites in American Canyon, Napa and St. Helena.

CANV’s Housing and Shelter Services operates the only homeless shelters in Napa County along with housing assistance to move people from shelter into sustainable housing. It also provides financial  assistance to help people at-risk of becoming homeless stay in their homes.
