Rita Moreno Returns to Napa Valley Opera House for 10-Year Anniversary

Moreno, who headlined at 2003 NVOH opening, will perform Saturday at 7 p.m

Multi-award winning performer Rita Moreno will take the stage on Saturday, Aug. 17 for an exclusive benefit performance in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Napa Valley Opera House. Moreno is one of only nine performers ever to win all four major artistic awards, including an Academy Award, Emmy, Grammy and Tony.

This is a special performance as Moreno wowed the Opera House audience in 2003 when the historic building reopened to the public after years of renovation.

Most recognized from her Academy Award-winning role in West Side Story, Moreno’s stage presence continues to impress audiences around the world. Her career has spanned over fifty years on stage and in film and television.

“Having Rita here to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Opera House means so much to the entire team,” said Peter Williams, executive director and artistic director for the Napa Valley Opera House. “As one of the most talented performers in the business today, we know the audience will have an unforgettable experience. We are so honored to have her with us for such a special evening.”

Originally built in 1880, the Napa Valley Opera House has been a staple in the Napa entertainment scene. The 1906 earthquake took a toll on the building’s structure, causing the Opera House to later close its doors in 1914.

After decades of fundraising, construction to revitalize the Opera House began in 2000 and doors were once again open to the public in 2002. On Aug. 1, 2003, the main stage was reintroduced to audiences with a gala performance staring Rita Moreno.
