Napa Porchfest Music Spotlight: Erich Zann Band

From 2 to 5 p.m. on July 31, Napa Porchfest presents a three-hour, self-guided festival of live music performed on porches in some of the city’s most picturesque neighborhoods. Here's our latest daily band profile.

If you expect the Erich Zann Band to include a guy named Erich Zann, this Napa ensemble has a surprise for you: The players are vocalist/guitarists Greg Forbyn and Gary T. Williams, bassist Dan DaSilva and drummer Patrick “Pappy” Williams, who also hosts a show on .

They describe their music as “eclectic, electric blues … from hip-grinding blues-rock to moody dark blues and jangly Gypsy swing.”

Founded in Napa last year, the EZB has played local venues and as far afield as Santa Barbara. You can catch up with the group and hear some music on this Facebook page.

July 31, the EZB will perform during , a three-hour, citywide celebration of local music and historic neighborhoods.

Nearly 30 local bands have signed up to play the inaugural Napa Porchfest, including the guitar duo of , jazz accordionist , Irish-Americana group Whiskey and Stitches and more than two dozen other acts.

Free to all ages, Napa Porchfest encourages listeners to get out of their cars and stroll or cycle the city’s neighborhoods, enjoying the sounds of live music and the sights of historic homes from earlier times.

In the words of Napa architect, preservationist and City Council member Juliana Inman, “vernacular porches and homegrown music” make a perfect match.

So mark your calendar and watch Napa Patch daily as we build an interactive map with links to profiles, music photos and videos of all the musicians, with the addresses of the porches where they’ll be playing.

I'm really excited about this event. I even pruned back some bushes in front of the porch so people could have a better view of the Erich Zann Bank. We're gonig to rock this neighbor hood. ALG
