'Mere Mortals' at Napa Valley College March 8-17

 Napa Valley Conservatory Theater continues the 2012/2013 season with David Ives' "Mere Mortals," directed by Danielle Cain, March 8-17.

Ives combines satire, wit, and hilarity in Mere Mortals at the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center, 2277 Napa-Vallejo Highway, Napa.

Mere Mortals is a collection of six short comic plays:

--FOREPLAY shows us a first date at a miniature golf course that morphs into a discussion of sex, time and love.

--MERE MORTALS eavesdrops on three construction workers, 50 stories up, as they share the amazing secrets of their past.

--In TIME FLIES, two young mayflies meet at a pond and hit it off, only to discover they have a lifespan of only one day—and their lives are half over!

--Jack and Jill meet at a party in ENGLISH MADE SIMPLE. As they get to know each other it’s revealed that they’re just lab rats in an academic experiment. Will the rats rebel?

--DR. FRITZ is a wacky surgeon, or a souvenir seller named Maria, or a sick tourist’s worst nightmare.

--In DEGAS C’EST MOI a man wakes up and decides to be the French artist Degas. The best place to do that is in New York City where he encounters all that makes great art.

Artistic Director Jennifer King has assembled a dynamic creative team for this show, including: Danielle Cain, Director; Jennifer Ruygt, Production Manager; Martin Flynn, Scenic Designer; Wendy Kaufman, Costume Designer; Tim Holtslag, Scenic Artist; Kevin Rebultan, Sound Design; Kimi Haith, Stage Manager; Travis Brown, Assistant State Manager; and Robert CeballosAshlyn Herrian, and Kevin Rebultan, Musicians.

Cain has been a working theatre artist in the North Bay for over 15 years. She is on the drama faculties at NVC and Sonoma State University. She has worked as an actor, voice & text coach and director for Actors Theatre, 6th Street Playhouse, Sebastopol Shakespeare Festival, Napa Valley College, Sonoma State University, Shakespeare Napa Valley and Cinnabar Theater. She was an Associate Artistic Director at Actors Theatre and Managing/Casting Director for 6th Street Playhouse. 

The production features the cast Edgar Camacho, of Vallejo, as Frank, Robert Ceballos, of Napa, as Tom, Fiorella Garica, of Pittsburg,, as May/Doris, Anthony Haynes, of American Canyon, as David Attenborough, Ashlyn Herrian, of Vallejo,  as Annie, Rafael Manzo, of Napa, as Ed, Linda Miller, of Napa, as the Announcer, Kevin Rebultan, of Vallejo,  as Chuck I/Jack, Omar Reynoso, of Vallejo,  as Chuck II, Juan Salcito, of Napa,  as Horace, Robert Silva, of Napa, , as Charlie/Chuck III, Aly Strader, of Napa,  as Jill/Amy, Arely Tinoco, of American Canyon, , as Joey/Alma, and Cassi Tynan, of Napa, as Maria.

Mere Mortals plays March 8, 9, 15, & 16 at 8pm; March 10 & 17 at 2pm in the Studio Theater at Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center. The Center is located at 2277 Napa-Vallejo Hwy. at the north end of the Napa Valley College Campus. Tickets are $20 general, $15 sen/stu/mil. Tickets may be purchased online at www.napavalleytheater.org ; through the Box Office by phoning 707-256-7500; or at the door beginning one hour prior to performance time (space permitting).
