How to Win Tickets to Branford Marsalis

One of the most popular saxophonists and bandleaders in jazz and beyond, Marsalis brings his quartet to the Napa Valley Opera House for one night Thursday. Here's how you can win a free pair of tickets to the show.

Who hasn't heard of ? The sax-playing member of the famous New Orleans musical family has appeared on TV, recorded CDs and even performed with the Grateful Dead.

Thanks to the , where Marsalis is playing Thursday night, we have three pairs of tickets to give away for free to Napa Patch readers who want to hear what promises to be a terrific concert in the intimate Opera House.

Here's what has to say about the show—I suggest you read it while listening to the Marsalis quartet in the accompanying YouTube video:

While I don’t really like to pick "favorite musicians," Branford Marsalis is one of my favorite musicians. I’ve been a fan ever since his first recording back in 1984.

One thing I look for in music is an artist who is searching and growing, and Mr. Marsalis fits that to a T.

Not content to rest on his laurels, or his famous last name, Branford’s CD’s are always something different, and his playing keeps getting better.

His quartet is an interactive jazz group that can go from beautiful ballads to intense, hard driving, take-no-prisoners jazz.

The group features Joey Calderazzo on Piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Jason Faulkner on drums.

So, how do you win a pair of free tickets to tomorrow's 8 p.m. show at the Opera House?

As usual, our contest is ridiculously easy; but this time, we're breaking it into three parts:

  1. We'll give away one pair of tickets right now (Wednesday 2 p.m.),
  2. one pair Thursday at 11 a.m.
  3. and the last pair Thursday at 4 p.m.

Each pair of free tickets will go to the first person who correctly answers our ridiculously easy quiz question.

  • Wednesday's tickets went to Edgar Gutierrez, who correctly answered that Branford Marsalis is older than his brother Wynton.

  • Thursday's 11 a.m. question—to win this pair of tickets, check your Napa Patch newsletter (don't get our daily newsletter? Sign up here) and post the answer in the comments below no sooner than 11 a.m.:

What is the SECOND news story in Thursday morning's Napa Patch newsletter?

  • Thursday's 4 p.m. question might be the easiest and most fun of all—but don't post your answer till 4 p.m.!:

What's changed about Napa Patch in the last 24 hours?

That's it! Oh, wait: .

Have fun and good luck!
