Heuther Sculpture to Herald Debut of Symphony Napa Valley

"High Chair" on display starting today, Wednesday, Sept. 18 through the rest of the week.

Gordon Huether celebrates the debut of the New Symphony Napa Valley, a signature program of the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center in Yountville, with the loaning of one of his highly sought after sculptural works.

High Chair,
one of the artist’s most recent sculptures, will be on display exclusively for the Symphony Debut Concert and Gala event on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The piece measures 14 feet in height and is assembled from approximately 50 repurposed classic European bistro chairs from Napa Valley restaurant Bistro Don Giovanni. The stacked chairs stir up notions of an event that is about to happen or has recently come to a close, and of an audience being seated, anticipating to partake in and enjoy a dazzling performance.

In comparison to other work by Gordon Huether, this piece charms its spectator with a whimsical feel, yet succeeds to retain Huether’s renowned contemporary touch. The object’s original purpose shifted and is redefined as a fragment of a composition of artistic expression.

High Chair will be at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center for a limited time only, starting Wednesday Sept. 18 through Sept. 22.
