Guide to Porchfest: Bands Are "Out of the Garage and Onto the Porch"

Napa's free music festival to have 80 bands at more than 47 homes and other venues.

Napa Porchfest, which takes local bands "out of the garage and onto the porch," happens Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

An astonishing 80 bands will play at 47 porches and other venues in historic Old Town Napa.

Maps of the sites are available at Goodman Library, 1219 First St.; at Wildcat, 1210 First St. and at the Napa City County Library, 580 Coombs St.  Or go to the event website to download and print out a map.

Maps will also be available from neighborhood volunteers, who will be wearing bright T-shirts.

To get the most out of Porchfest, consider bicycling.

Bicycling could be the best way to hit multiple band sites during the five-hour window of opportunity.

"Bring your bike!" organizers say. "You know you want to."

For those who want to drive, free public parking will be available in the 5th Street garage and city and county surface parking lots.

"Time limits on other surface parking lots apply," organizers say. "On-street parking is very limited."

Food trucks and restrooms will be available at Napa City County Library's Porchfest site, 580 Coombs St.

Other restrooms are at:

--Fuller Park, Seminary Street.

--St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1917 Third St.

--Uptown Theatre, 1350 3rd St.

--ABC Bakery, 1517 3rd St.

--Oxbow Public Market, 644 1st St.

--Goodman Library, 1219 1st St.

If you're visiting a porch, know that the interiors of homes will not be open to guests. You may bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers -- but no alcohol.

Organizers advise dressing for warm weather and bringing hats and sunscreen.
City of Napa ordinances apply for dogs, alcohol and unruly behavior.

Don't leave trash at the homes -- "only your footprints," organizers say.
