Talk Cinema Napa Valley presents A Screaming Man

A Screaming Man, is written and directed by Mahamat Saleh Haroun, the 50 year-old  master filmmaker from Chad, the central African nation on Libya's southern border. Set in the capital city of N'Djamena, Haroun’s story focuses on Adam, a man in his mid 50s, who oversees the pool at a smart hotel that looks like it dates from Chad’s former days at the bottom of the list of French colonies. Things couldn’t be more contemporary about the moment, even as Haroun is something of an elemental, classical story teller: The country is in a state of high military lockdown, there’s a rebellion afoot, which seems distant in the opening frames of the story as it underscores the sweet rhythms of Adam’s life.
All of that is about to change, as Adam faces choices that no man should have to. A Screaming Man, which won the grand jury prize at Cannes last year, is a quiet film about Adam's unforgettable choice.
