NVESA Screens "Precious Knowledge"

About the documentary:
"The documentary Precious Knowledge interweaves the stories of students in the Mexican American Studies Program at Tucson High School. While 48 percent of Mexican American students currently drop out of high school, Tucson High’s Mexican American Studies Program has become a national model of educational success, with on average, 93 percent of enrolled students graduating from high school and 85 percent going on to attend college. The filmmakers spent an entire year in the classroom filming this innovative social justice curriculum, documenting the transformative impact on students who become engaged, informed, and active in their communities."

On May 3rd:
We will have the privilege of having the Eren (the director), Pricilla (a graduate of the program, and Yolanda (a teacher of the program) who will join us after the screening for a Q&A session. We can't wait to see you all at this remarkable and historical event!

Who we are:
Napa Valley Ethnic Studies Advocates (NVESA) was founded in January 2012, as a volunteer community group composed of high school students, college students, parents, and educators. We are committed to the implementation of Ethnic Studies courses in our community’s middle schools, high schools, and college in order to increase academic success and close the achievement gap in our education system. Ethnic Studies are a cutting edge educational experience benefiting all students. Research has shown that Ethnic Studies increase graduation rates and overall academic performance. Ethnic Studies develop the student’s social maturity, self-confidence, and self-awareness needed to effectively engage with people in our immediate and global communities. Ethnic Studies allow students to gain a greater understanding of the diversity of people’s experience, historically and culturally, while providing a foundation for an inclusive way of living in a diverse world. NVESA is committed to this goal.
