Guerillas Invade Vallejo - Sunset Boulevard at The Empress

All right, Mr. DeMille, We're ready for our close-up!

Join the troops of the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar as we invade the town of Vallejo and the beautiful Empress Theatre (330 Virginia Street, Vallejo) for a screening of the 1950 classic "Sunset Boulevard" starring Gloria Swanson and William Holden.

Set in 1950's Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard focuses on Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), a silent-screen goddess whose pathetic belief in her own indestructibility has turned her into a demented recluse. The crumbling Sunset Boulevard mansion where she lives with only her butler, Max (Erich von Stroheim) who was once her director and husband has become her self-contained world. Norma dreams of a comeback to pictures and she begins a relationship with Joe Gillis William Holden), a small-time writer who becomes her lover, that will soon end with murder and total madness. Remember that we have music an hour before all our movies.

The film starts at 8:00 pm but the doors will open at 6:30 with live music provided by The Jazz Cartel. They're a piano trio consisting of young musicians who have been together for over one year and are largely influenced by: Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk.

Tickets are $9 for Adults and $6 for Seniors (65 and older) and Children (up to 18). Don't forget - a small popcorn and drink only costs $4 at The Empress!

Following the film, we'll head to The Townhouse Cocktail Lounge (401 Georgia Street, Vallejo) to check out what's going on there.

There are no “gay” bars in Napa. Our mission is to turn selected bars, restaurants, pubs and other facilities “gay for a day”. Why? We seek to create safe and entertaining social opportunities for LGBTQ folks, their friends and their allies. We do this by developing and promoting social activities that build community and support Napa Valley businesses and organizations.

EVERYONE is welcome at Napa Guerilla Gay Bar events (subject to event or venue-specific age restrictions). The only requirement is to treat fellow participants (troops), other patrons, the facility and its management and employees with respect.
