Art Film: In Our Name

A woman struggles to deal with the emotional costs of war in this neo-realistic drama from filmmaker Brian Welsh. Suzy (Joanne Froggatt) is a wife and mother who is also a soldier in the British military, and after serving a long tour of duty in Iraq, she returns home to a shabby neighborhood in Newcastle, where her family welcomes her with open arms. But adjusting to civilian life is no easy task for Suzy; her young daughter barely recognizes her and has trouble reconnecting with her mother.  What makes things even more difficult is that Suzy is tormented by the memory of a child who died as a result of her actions in Iraq, and now she's fearful of the safety of her own daughter. Suzy's anger and paranoia begin to well up inside her until she begins acting out in away that makes her a threat to those around her, including her little girl. Joanne Froggatt's performance as Suzy earned her the "Most Promising Newcomer" prize at the 2010 British Independent Film Awards.
