A Sculpture Unveiling

Young artists reveal their work on collaborative sculptures. With support from the Arts Council of Napa Valley, Foster's, Napa County Office of Education and On the Move.

300 people from the McPherson Neighborhood came together to participate in a Community Build event hosted by On The Move's Youth Leadership Academies. In spring of 2011, student work began on 9 metal sculptures whose shapes had been selected by the community vote from the November 2010 Community Build event. Now the collaborative sculptures have been completed by a team of artists, high school interns from the Leadership Academy and middle school youth from the Leadership Academy who worked together over 9 months time.

The sculptures represent a wide variety of materials; glass, metal, paint, wood and three shapes; hearts, sun/moon crescent and the eight pointed star. The funding has been a partnership of the Arts Council Napa Valley, Foster's, Napa County Office of Education and On The Move. Artists include: Patti Wessman, Forrester Holley, Josanna Borelli-Zavala and Miki Hsu Leavey. Special thanks to Steve Carlson who built the stands for the sculptures, and Toby Gervurtz of "Metalforms" for manufacturing the shapes
