BottleRock Gains Momentum in Day 4

Crowds are huge, active, upbeat.

Crowds, music, food and merriment all gained momentum Saturday in the fourth day of the inaugural five-day BottleRock Napa Valley.

"This is really fun, really well-run," said Dianne "Mimi" Read of Santa Rosa. "Everybody's really comfortable, and the lineup is really good."

Read, one of about 35,000 attendees Saturday, found a "home" at BottleRock at a picnic table in the food court area. Seated, with outdoor heaters and easy access to food and drink, Read and others had a stellar view of a massive screen transmitting the live performances from WillPower stage.

"You can really hear the music here," said Read, 62, who was at BottleRock with her 30-year-old son and a group of his friends.

Others found their places in and around BottleRock.

"I've been really busy," said Jack Warren, operator of Hub Tours in Napa, a pedicab rental business. Warren said he hoped to have a chance to hear some music at BottleRock today -- but so far, demand for pedicab services has been too great to take a break.

"I'd like to hear Cake  and the The Wallflowers," Warren said, referring to two bands on today's lineup.

Crowd control at BottleRock Saturday appeared fairly smooth, although one highly intoxicated couple sparked a huge response from emergency personnel at about 8 p.m.

Two Napa fire trucks, a Napa paramedic unit and a Napa Police patrol car all converged on the Copia Center at 500 1st St., where the couple was in custody.

"It seems like a lot for two intoxicated people," one onlooker said. "But that's just Napa."
