Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Tata Vega and Judith Hill have all played pivotal roles in songs that are ingrained in our memory, but these talented performers were parts of a whole. An eye-popping array of rock ‘n’ roll legends from Bruce Springsteen to Mick Jagger to Sting are on hand to testify to the importance these singers had in the final sound of classic tracks.

Starting with Ray Charles and working up through current artists, these female singers sacrificed their own ego for a chance to be part of something bigger. Director Morgan Neville shines a light on these inspiring artists for the first time in a way that will make you hear these classic songs differently.

A powerful and inspiring film, Twenty Feet From Stardom might be the closest an audience ever gets to the heart of rock ‘n’ roll, and the view from here is pretty great.

“I can confidently say that this is a feel-good movie that will have our audiences up on their feet, cheering in the aisles,” raved Senior NVFF Programmer Herb Stratford, who saw the film’s premiere at Sundance this year. “We are so lucky that the gifted director Morgan Neville agreed to come to Napa for the screening, along with the extraordinarily talented Lisa Fischer.”

“It will be a night to remember,” commented Festival Co-Founder and Director Brenda Lhormer. “We love to bring new films and talent to our appreciative community and its visitors whenever we can, outside of our annual Film Festival, which we’re currently planning for this November 13 – 17. We can’t wait to share this incredible movie with our audience.”

Screenings of Twenty Feet From Stardom will be held at 5:30pm and 8:30pm on Tuesday May 7. Tickets are available now at www.nvff.org. The 5:30pm screening tickets are $20 and include a pre-film wine tasting and live performance by Lisa Fischer following the film. Doors open at 5:00pm. Tickets for the 8:30pm screening are $10.

The legacy of one of Los Angeles’ most storied recording studios, Sound City is the subject of Nirvana/Foo Fighters musician Dave Grohl’s directorial debut. The film deftly blends the studio’s history, as the place where music magic happened in the golden era of L.A. rock ‘n’ roll with changes in the music industry in the Napster/ iTunes era.

At the "Sound City" screening on Monday at the Uptown Theatre, meanwhile, Director Morgan Neville will be in attendance with Ms. Fischer for Q&A’s following both screenings. NVFF Patron Circle members are admitted free. For more information on NVFF Patron Circle Membership, visit www.nvff.org.

Grohl blends a parade of rock celebrity testimonials with the human story of the people behind the mixing board which made the music that defined a generation. Equally touching is Grohl’s dedication to researching and saving the key component of the studio, the NEVE 2080 soundboard, which was the heart and soul of the studio. The film delivers an electrifying musical set with guest musicians including Paul McCartney as it comes to a satisfying close.

This film is a great nugget of musical history with killer interviews, classic L.A. rock ‘n’ roll music and a sweet story of respect for the artistry which has come before and what is still to come.

Doors open at 6 pm for a wine and food pre-reception. Screening at 7:15pm will be followed by an on-stage conversation and Q&A with Director Dave Grohl. BRNV Platinum Reserve Members and NVFF Patron Circle Members are admitted free for the evening, but must RSVP by Friday, May 3. Tickets at $100 apiece are available exclusively to holders of BottleRock’s VIP Pass ($599).

If any seats remain unsold, rush tickets will be available day of show. For more information, and to buy Passes and screening tickets, visit the BottleRock Napa Valley offices at 1232 First Street, in downtown Napa, or call BottleRock at
