Tomato Lovers to Have Their Day

Inaugural Tomato Tasting Planned Aug. 25 at Oxbow Public Market.

A new event for tomato lovers is coming next month with the debut of the inaugural Oxbow Public Market Tomato Tasting.

The event, a collaboration of Oxbow Public Market and Napa Valley TomatoWorks, will be Sunday, August 25, from noon to 3 p.m. at the popular Public Market, located at 610 First St. in the Oxbow District of downtown Napa.

Enjoy a glass of wine, a Hail Mary (non-alcoholic Bloody Mary) or a refreshing ice tea, along with “tomato talks” with authors, chefs and tomato experts including Amy Giaquinta of TomatoWorks, Aaron Keever, Culinary Gardener at the French Laundry, and master farmer Peter Jacobson.

A walk around tomato tasting and judging featuring up to 30 varieties of tomatoes on the Oxbow River Deck is included, where guest votes will determine the favorites. Several Oxbow merchants will feature special tomato menu offerings for purchase, along with advice on how to select, prepare and enjoy this popular summer fruit.
