Program Offered to Prevent Holiday Depression in Elk Grove Seniors

Emeritus at Laguna Creek is offering free visits from health experts.

An Elk Grove assisted living home is offering free professional visits to check on the physical and mental health of area seniors this holiday season.

“About 20 percent of seniors suffer from full-blown depression or a less
severe form of the condition and the holiday season can be particularly difficult,” a press release quoted Brenda Chappell, the Executive Director of Emeritus at Laguna Creek, as saying.

Through the free program, family members may call Emeritus at Laguna Creek to request a visit. A staff member will then check on the senior, and help connect the family with community resources if needed. Previously, the program operated on referrals from health professionals.

A press release from the facility says happy memories from holidays past can trigger depression, as can a recent loss, distance from loved ones, or diminished health.

Emeritus at Laguna Creek is located at 6727 Laguna Park Drive, and can be reached at (916) 683-1881.

Seniors are depressed there because the people who work there don't attend to them when they call, they don't brush their teeth or comb their hair, and they pass by their rooms, shut off their raidios when they are yelling for help.... for hours and hours the staff ignores them!!! If I lived their I WOULD BE DEPRESSED TOO!!!

Hi, can you substantiate those claims?

Many other employees have quit because of the way they were told to care for the Residents! There is NO PROPER TRAINING! All you have to do is go into the buildings at breakfast time and see that the Residents did NOT get their teeth brushed or hair combed. Some even have crap under their nails and if you tell the NURSE that they need extra attention to clean under the nails they will tell you that it is their families' responsibility!!! Sometimes it's there for DAYS!!! HONESTLY THEY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED!!! I have already complained to Corporate & they had an internal investigation, but of course they (management) covered for each other! I would never put my elderly family into that any other elderly facility after my EYE OPENING experience with them!!!
